Today we spent a fantastic afternoon in the blazing hot sunshine down in Ten Acres getting the Himalayan Balsam under control with a small team of volunteers. Using the technique highlighted in our recent Balsam video<\/a> we spent a solid 3 hours down by the river snapping and piling up invasive balsam. Himalayan Balsam is a highly invasive pest species that spreads along river banks primarily with it\u2019s fast growing system and explosive seed pods. The balsam creates a monoculture that prevents other native plants from growing and drowns out our native ecology. We are so pleased to have active residents engaged in this area and helping us to restore it to a functional and safe area with a natural balance!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
