What a Scorcher! A Fiery Finish to Our First Week of Summer Fun Days

What a brilliant way to wrap up the first week of our Summer Fun Days along the beautiful River Rea!

On Friday, we headed to Ten Acres — specifically to the delightfully misnamed “Middle Meadow,” which actually sits right at the top end of the site. Names aside, it was the perfect spot for a sizzling summer day outdoors.

And what a day it was — an absolute scorcher! With the sun blazing, we made sure to prioritise everyone’s comfort and safety from the very start. Water bottles? Check. Sunscreen? Check. Shade and regular breaks? Absolutely. We set up camp with our trusty gazebo and belltent, raising the sides to let the breeze in and keep things nice and cool.

Despite the heat, there was no shortage of fun and activity! The children got stuck into some of their favourite challenges, including fire lighting and archery. Many were trying these for the first time, but we also welcomed back some regulars who have started mastering more advanced skills — like the impressive Viking fire technique. 🔥

There was plenty more action too, with lively games of football and frisbee, and lots of laughs on the magic carpet and ropey dopey. Whether it was balancing, climbing, or whizzing around, everyone found something to enjoy — all at their own pace, with lots of water breaks and cool-down time in between.

For lunch, we enjoyed a refreshing and healthy snack box, packed with goodies perfect for the hot weather. This week’s box included Fruit Shoots, carrots, cucumbers, sugar snap peas, blueberries, apples, breadsticks, and a treat of raspberry Soreen. A perfect balance of fuel and flavour for a busy day outside!

As for hot chocolate — we all agreed it was definitely too hot for that this time! 😅

It’s been a fantastic start to the summer, full of fun, new experiences, and growing friendships. We can’t wait to see what the next few weeks bring!
