Summer Fun Days: Windy Adventures at Hazelwell Park!

This Tuesday’s Kids Summer Fun Day brought us back to the beautiful Hazelwell Park—and for once, the weather was (mostly) on our side! After a run of rainy days, we were relieved to stay dry… although the blustery wind had other plans for some of our usual activities. Fire lighting had to take a back seat this time, but that didn’t stop us from having a day full of energy, creativity, and laughter.

We kicked off the day with a brilliant mix of games that kept everyone moving and engaged. From croquet to cricket to frisbee, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The open space gave us the perfect chance to run around and work together as teams.

One of the real highlights of the day was our shelter-building challenge. Using rods and canes, the kids worked together to construct different structures and explore the best ways to build a shelter that could stand up to the wind. It was incredible to see how imaginative and resourceful everyone was—testing different shapes, positions, and strategies to see what worked best. There were some fantastic designs and lots of shared learning along the way.

Of course, all that activity built up an appetite! Lunchtime was a tasty and healthy mix:
🥣 Oat and honey bars
🍪 Blackcurrant jammy dodgers
🥕 Carrot sticks
🌿 Sugar snap peas
🍈 Limelon – a zesty melon with a lime twist
🧃 And to wash it all down – a Fruit Shoot

It was a great balance of fun and food, and we loved seeing the kids enjoy both the challenges and the downtime.

Next up, we’re hoping for slightly calmer weather so we can bring back some of our usual bushcraft favourites—but no matter what, we know the fun will keep rolling. Thanks to everyone who came along and made the day such a success!

See you at the next Summer Fun Day!
