Saturday took us to one of our favourite spots β the Lost Orchard β for a day of clearing, caring, and connecting with nature. This special corner of our site is home to a mix of plum, apple, and cherry trees, including the much-loved Pershore plums, and itβs been crying out for a bit of attention lately.
With gloves on and loppers in hand, volunteers spent the day tackling brambles and persistent weeds that had started to creep around the base of the trees. Itβs tough, physical work β but incredibly rewarding to see sunlight reach the orchard floor again and give those fruit trees a bit more breathing room.
Moments like these remind us why ongoing maintenance is so vital. Trees need space to thrive, and the orchard only exists today thanks to the regular care of our dedicated volunteers and funding from the National Lottery.
By the end of the day, we could see a real difference β and we even spotted a few late-season fruits clinging on as a thank-you gift from the trees themselves!
