After last week’s extraordinary heatwave, it was a welcome change to head back into Ten Acres Woods for our Thursday Food & Fire meet-up and find the weather behaving itself!
Last week saw temperatures soaring to around 37°C, meaning we had to abandon the fire and retreat beneath a tarp with a giant picnic. This week was a much more pleasant affair, with fairer, more comfortable weather giving us the chance to properly enjoy being outdoors again.
Food, Friends and the Woods
As always, our Thursday meet-ups are about more than just the food or the fire. They’re a chance to get together, spend some time outdoors, have a chat and enjoy the woodland environment.
This week, we had a particularly tasty addition to the menu: chicken bhuna. 🍛
There’s something especially satisfying about enjoying a hearty meal outdoors, surrounded by trees and fresh air. The chicken bhuna went down well and made a lovely change from last week’s cold picnic food!
We also had plenty of fresh fruit to enjoy, including melon and grapes, along with juice to keep everyone refreshed. 🍇🍈🧃
After the extreme temperatures of the previous week, it was lovely to be able to sit outside without constantly worrying about finding shade or keeping everything chilled.
A Welcome Change from the Heatwave
The difference in the weather really did make an impact.
Last week, the priority was staying cool, keeping hydrated and making sure everyone — including Luna — was safe in the extreme heat. We had our large tarp providing shade, extra cold water, ice packs and even a personal fan for Luna!
This week, things were much simpler.
There was no need to build our entire afternoon around escaping the heat. Instead, we could relax and enjoy the woods at a much more comfortable temperature.
It was a good reminder of just how quickly conditions can change when you’re spending time outdoors. One week you’re desperately seeking shade and reaching for an ice-cold drink, and the next you’re happily sitting outside enjoying a warm meal.
Why We Love Our Thursday Meet-Ups
These regular Food & Fire sessions are a great opportunity to slow down and spend some time together in the woods.
There’s something about sharing food outdoors that naturally brings people together. Conversations flow, people get to know one another and there’s always something happening around the camp.
Even when we don’t have a particularly elaborate menu, sitting down together over food makes the meet-up feel special.
And, of course, being in Ten Acres Woods gives us the perfect setting. 🌳
Away from the usual hustle and bustle, the woodland provides a chance to reconnect with nature while enjoying the company of others.
Looking Ahead
It was great to get back to a more typical Thursday session after last week’s heatwave edition.
Good food, fair weather, fresh air and plenty of time to chat — what more could you ask for?
A big thank you to everyone who came along and helped make another Thursday in the woods such a lovely one.
We’re looking forward to seeing what makes it onto the menu next week! 🔥🌳
Food tastes better outdoors.
