Thursday brought another warm and welcoming session at our NNS Fireside food session, with participants coming together to share a meal, enjoy some snacks and treats, and spend time in good company.
This week, the main meal was a hearty chicken bhuna, served alongside a selection of other snacks, treats and drinks for everyone to enjoy. There was plenty to choose from, with something to enjoy throughout the session.
And one thing that has become increasingly clear is that watermelon is a firm Fireside favourite! π It regularly disappears from the table, and this week was no exception.
More than just a meal
At Fireside, food is an important part of what we do, but it is only one part of the experience.
Sharing food gives people a natural reason to sit together and talk. It creates opportunities for conversations that might not otherwise happen and allows people to get to know one another at their own pace.
This Thursday was another great example of that.
People of all ages joined us, creating a lovely mix of people and personalities. Some people came ready to chat, others simply enjoyed eating and relaxing with everyone else, and conversations naturally developed throughout the session.
That variety is one of the things that makes Fireside so special.
A place to connect
Community spaces don’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it’s simply about having somewhere welcoming to go, knowing there will be food available, and being surrounded by people who are happy to share the space with you.
Fireside is designed around exactly that idea.
There is no expectation that everyone has to participate in the same way. People can eat, drink, chat, listen, meet new people or simply enjoy being part of the group.
Over time, those small interactions can become meaningful connections.
For some participants, Fireside might be a regular part of their week. For others, it might be their first opportunity in a while to sit down and share food with other people.
Food, Fire & Company
Our Food, Fire & Company sessions are about bringing those simple ingredients together.
π₯ Food β a shared meal and something tasty to enjoy.
π₯ Fire β a warm, welcoming focal point for the session.
π₯ Company β the opportunity to spend time with other people, build relationships and feel part of a community.
Thursday’s session had all three.
From chicken bhuna and snacks to everyone’s favourite watermelon, there was plenty of food on the table. But perhaps more importantly, there was laughter, conversation and a genuinely lovely atmosphere.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped make this week’s session what it was.
We look forward to seeing everyone again next Thursday. β€οΈ
