Recently, volunteers came together at Harvest Green to focus on long-term habitat restoration along the riverside. Over time, this stretch of river had become dominated by dense bramble growth, reducing biodiversity and limiting access to the water. The group worked hard to cut back the bramble, opening up the area and creating space for a more diverse range of plants to re-establish.
As well as managing vegetation, volunteers also carried out a litter pick along the riverbank. Bags of rubbish were removed from the site, making an immediate and visible improvement while helping to protect the health of the river and surrounding wildlife.
A Big Thank You
This work highlights what can be achieved through community action when supported by vital funding. Thanks to National Lottery funding, we were able to provide the necessary tools, staff support, and safe working practices, enabling volunteers to make a real and lasting impact along the River Rea.
A huge thank you to everyone who gave their time and energy. Your efforts are helping to restore habitats, improve access, and care for these important green spaces for the benefit of both people and wildlife. We look forward to continuing this work in the weeks ahead.
