Good Food, Good Company and Time in Nature at Ten Acres

This Thursday we once again gathered around the campfire in the woodlands of Ten Acres for another relaxing afternoon of cooking, conversation and enjoying nature together.

With another spell of beautiful sunshine, we set up the tarp to create some welcome shade before getting the fire going. As people arrived, the woodland soon filled with the sound of friendly conversation, birds singing overhead and the occasional crackle from the fire. It’s a simple setting, but one that always seems to encourage people to slow down, unwind and enjoy being outdoors.

This week’s menu was a delicious Thai red chicken curry with pineapple, served alongside fragrant jasmine rice. The sweetness of the pineapple balanced the gentle spice of the curry perfectly, making it an ideal meal to enjoy on a warm summer’s day. For dessert, we finished with a refreshing melon pudding, while chilled juice and kombucha helped everyone keep cool in the afternoon heat.

Cooking together over an open fire is always a team effort. From chopping vegetables and preparing ingredients to stirring the pot and serving lunch, everyone is welcome to get involved as much or as little as they like. It’s not about producing restaurant-quality food—it’s about sharing the experience and enjoying the process together.

One of the things people often comment on is how different it feels to spend a few hours in the woodland. Away from busy roads and screens, the natural surroundings create a calm atmosphere where conversations seem to flow more easily. Whether people come to catch up with old friends or meet someone new, the sessions offer a welcoming space where everyone can feel part of the community.

Research has shown that spending time in nature can help reduce stress, improve mood and encourage social connection. While we don’t need scientific studies to tell us how good it feels to sit beneath the trees with a warm meal and good company, it’s always encouraging to know that these simple moments can have real benefits for our wellbeing.

Our Thursday gatherings are open to everyone, and no outdoor cooking experience is needed. Whether you’re a regular or thinking of coming along for the first time, you’ll find a friendly group, a warm welcome and, of course, something tasty to eat.
